Professor Jim Hall

Professor Jim Hall, FREng FRS, is Professor of Climate and Environmental Risks at the University of Oxford. He is internationally renowned for his work on risk analysis and decision-making under uncertainty, particularly in relation to Critical Infrastructure Systems and Services and Climate Change Adaptation. From 2011 to 2019, he was Director of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute. He leads the Oxford Programme for Sustainable Infrastructure Systems (OPSIS) and is part of the Management Group of the Agile Initiative. His team developed the National Infrastructure Systems Model (NISMOD) and the UK’s first national water resource systems model. He also chairs the Data and Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure (DAFNI). Prof Hall is the President of the UK Institution of Civil Engineers (2024–25), a member of the UK Prime Minister's Council for Science and Technology and advises the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA) of the United Kingdom. He has worked globally, including in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society, and has received numerous awards, including the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water.
