Nikolaos Lagaros is a Dr. Civil Engineer, Vice Rector of NTUA, former Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Professor of Structural Optimization in the Department of Structural Engineering. From October 2013 to March 2014 he was on a six-month leave of absence during which he was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, McGill University, Montreal, Canada (during the first quarter) and at the Department of Biological Engineering, Laboratory for Computational Biology & Biophysics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA (during the second quarter). He was a Supervisor of the School of Technical Training of Officers of Engineering from September 2007 to August 2013, and also served as Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly from September 2000 to August 2007. Mr. Lagaros' professional work focuses on the interface of his research with industry, more specifically including: Development of a computational platform for optimization of civil engineering structures with the aim of sustainable design of structures based on New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles and interface with construction analysis and dimensioning software (SAP2000, ETABS, SCIA Engineer, SCADA Pro, Tekla Structures). The software has been commercially distributed in Greece and abroad while Mr. Lagaros' team has undertaken studies for the optimization of civil engineering structures in Greece and abroad (collaboration with the design offices of PARSONS UAE, ATKINS UAE, SYSTRA UAE, ALEC UAE, Cognizant UK, K. Liontou GR, SETEC France, DUCON India). He is responsible for the development of an acceleration measuring - recording instrument for monitoring the structural integrity of civil engineering structures and has served as a Technical Expert to the European Joint Research Centre (JRC) for the Preparatory Action of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), as part of the "Emerging Technologies" working group (May 2023-today).
