Gregoris Mentzas

Gregoris Mentzas is Professor of Management Information Systems, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and Founder and Director of the Information Management Unit (IMU), a research unit on information systems, human-AI collaboration, knowledge management and data-driven decision-making. He has held appointments in the Board of Directors of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS, 2006-2009) and was Director of the division of “Industrial Electric Devices and Decision Systems” (2010-2019). His main research focus is on AI-enabled decision support: augmenting human intelligence with data-driven approaches and using Artificial Intelligence to elevate human decision-making competence. His current research concerns the development of prescriptive data analytics for digital assistants in industry 4.0, the integration of human feedback in reinforcement learning and the use of big data analytics in applications like personalised health, smart mobility, technology acceptance and sustainable living. He has supervised more than 150 diploma theses and more than 20 doctoral theses and was principal investigator in more than 60 European research and development projects. Research carried out by his group has led to the establishment of three internet technology companies. Prof. Mentzas has published 4 books and more than 350 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences and has received 5 best papers awards for his work, while his publications have received more than 9.500 citations (October 2024). He is in the top 2% of highly cited scientists globally in a publicly available list of more than 7 million scientists in all areas of research and technology. He sits on the editorial board of 6 international journals and has served as (co-)Chair or Program Committee Member and session organiser in more than 55 international conferences, while he has given 12 invited lectures in scientific conferences. He has acted as grant evaluator in research programmes of the European Commission, the Centre for Advanced Studies of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (RPF).
