Charis Gantes is Professor of Steel Structures and Director of the Institute of Steel Structures in the School of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. He is also Editor in Chief of the Journal of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS), member of the Executive Council of IASS and correspondent for Greece of Structural Engineering International (SEI). He is the representative of Greece in Committee CEN/TC250/SC3 for Eurocode 3 of the European Organization for Standardization CEN and coordinator of the Greek working group ELOT TE67/OE3 for Eurocode 3. Dr. Gantes is an expert in the design of new and the assessment of existing structural engineering projects and infrastructures (including buildings, industrial facilities, renewable and conventional energy production infrastructures, fuel pipelines, structural infrastructures of telecommunication networks and transport networks), with an emphasis on steel structures. His research activity focuses on the behavior, analysis and design of steel structures under extreme loads, including earthquake, wind, wave and blast loads, using experimental, numerical and analytical methods. He has authored more than 300 articles in scientific journals, conferences and book chapters. At the same time, he participates as a consultant in the design and assessment of technical projects, mainly of steel but also of other building materials, in Greece and abroad.
