Anastasios Sextos

Anastasios Sextos is an Assoc. Professor at the Laboratory of Earthquake Technology of the National Technical University of Athens and a Professor at the University of Bristol in the UK. In the latter, he is the Head of the Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering Research Group and the Founding Director of the UK National Facility of Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction. His research contribution focuses on the experimental and numerical assessment of seismic performance of critical infrastructure, the resilience of highway and energy networks and the interaction between structures and subsoil under multiple hazards. He is a member of the Management Board of the UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC), the National Delegate of Greece in the European Association of Earthquake Engineering, a member of the Drafting Committee for the evolution of the Eurocode 8 (SC8-PT6 for bridges), a member of the Performance-based design Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (A.S.C.E.), a member of the British Standards Committee for Seismic Design BSI 525/8 and Associate Editor for ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering and Earthquake Spectra. Anastasios Sextos has served as the President of the Hellenic Association for Earthquake Engineering, a member of the Board of Directors of the Organization for Earthquake Planning and Protection in Greece and a member of the Board of Directors of the Alexander Innovation Zone. He has been the Principal Investigator of 32 national and international research projects with a total budget €21m+ funded by EU, UK, Greece, USA, UAE and Germany. His published work includes 100+ papers in peer-reviewed international journals, 4 books, 20+ book chapters and 130+ international conference papers. He has acted as visiting Professor at University California Berkeley, a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a High-End Expert for China. He is the recipient of 20 national and international awards for research and teaching excellence.
